USA Truck

USA Truck is a nationwide medium haul carrier specializing in dry van freight headquartered in Van Buren, Arkansas. They were incorporated in 1986 as a subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation. USA trucking at that time was a small 300 tractor fleet. The company has come a long way since those days. Currently, USA Truck operates a well maintained modernized tractor fleet that includes several makes and models of over 2,300 tractors. They maintain over 7,200 53ft. dry van trailers. Currently, USA Truck transports freight throughout the continental United States and into the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. They also transport freight into and out of Mexico through its trailer service terminal located in Laredo, Texas.

Trucks are dispatched to the shipper’s dock and loaded onto an intermodal trailer or container. The truck then delivers the load to the nearest intermodal rail terminal. There the freight is loaded onto specially designed railroad flatcars. The freight continues its journey by dedicated intermodal trains to a different location and finally delivered by truck to the final destination.

Intermodal transportation allows for a variety of freight to be transported. The freight can be as varied as consumer goods, raw materials, parcels, parts, components, and US Mail. Thousands of full truckload shipments are transported on a daily basis though this combination of truck and rail. A major advantage of freight shipped through intermodal services is that it saves the customer money as opposed to a general freight delivery. The savings can be as much as 40%.

USA Truck also offers dedicated freight service. This is somewhat different from the general freight service in that this program makes equipment and drivers available to specific customers for specific routes and times. Companies of any size can take advantage of this service. This program often helps businesses keep their costs under control.

USA is also an award winning carrier. USA Truck was awarded Top Pay Carrier by the Independent National Transportation Institute (NTI) as part of its 2011 Survey of Driver Wages. According to president Gordon Klemp. “In order to get this, they have passed a rigorous three-part qualification process. This award was given to USA Truck only after we examined the long term financial success they offer drivers as well as what they provide in terms of job security, retirement income and health and wellness coverage.” Furthermore, he said “This is the only pay award that is quantifiable and actually based on objective information. We hope this rating will give drivers a tool to use in their careers. Scott Loveday, Director of Driver Recruiting at USA Truck replied “We are honored to be recognized for our efforts to be a great career choice for Truckers. We are committed to being the kind of company that quality drivers are looking for. Coming from an independent third party, this award goes a long way to prove we are looking out for drivers over the long term.”
