Obesity, Heart Disease and Cancer are major risk factors in truck drivers. Commercial truck drivers are estimated to live an estimated 16 years less than people in other occupations. It appears that eating nuts can significantly reduce the risk of both heart disease and cancer plus help with weight reduction. This is confirmed by a 30 year Harvard study which concluded that those who eat nuts are less likely to die of heart disease and cancer. A study conducted by the California Seventh Day Adventist reported in the Loma Linda University School of Public Health publication concluded that nuts play an important role in preventing and treating cancer. This study which had included a large number of California Seventh Day Adventists confirmed that men, women and even children of all sizes and ages greatly benefited by eating nuts. This study concluded that nuts not only reduced the risks of a heart attack by up to 60% but also played a major role in extending longevity. This study further concluded that nut consumption reduces the risks of both fatal and nonfatal coronary heart disease. Researchers attempted to look for ways to disprove this finding through adjusting the data for differences in age, sex, smoking habits, exercise, relative weight and hypertension. Despite their efforts to disprove the data, the protective qualities of nuts remained unchanged.
Other large studies have also confirmed the benefits of eating nuts. They have discovered that nuts benefit the cardiovascular system reducing the risks of heart disease and strokes. They have also confirmed that nuts reduce the risks of developing diabetes, dementia advanced macular degeneration and even gallstones. Studies have suggested that those who eat nuts on a daily basis gain an extra five to six years of life free of coronary disease plus receive an overall increased live span.
This is great news for truck drivers many of whom suffer with these conditions. Drivers can easily keep nuts in their trucks. In fact nuts are ideal to keep on hand. These are several types of nuts to choose. These can include peanuts, walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts and others. Each nut has its own characteristics and health benefits. Furthermore, they can be eaten raw, roasted, oiled or salted. Choose a variety of nuts for versatility and enjoyment.
